Tourists attacked in Paris: 1 dead, 2 injured

One person was killed and two injured after a man attacked tourists in the centre of Paris near the Eiffel Tower, according to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.

The Interior Minister also said that police have already arrested a 26-year-old man, a French citizen.

It is reported that the attack took place around 19:00 GMT on the Grenelle promenade: the man attacked a tourist couple with a knife, fatally wounding a German citizen. While he was being pursued by the police, he attacked two other people with a hammer, after which the police made an arrest.

It was later revealed that the reason was the situation in the Gaza Strip and that “so many Muslims are dying in Afghanistan and in Palestine.”

The suspect was previously sentenced to 4 years in prison in 2016 for planning another attack, and was also known for his mental health problems.

The incident took place on Saturday night in the heart of Paris, which raises some questions as Paris is due to host the Olympic Games in less than eight months.
