Tragic outcome: British man dies during hair transplant in Turkey

A British man has died following a hair transplant procedure in Turkey. The 38-year-old travelled to Istanbul for the transplant at the Dr Cinik clinic, located in the Besiktas district, according to Turkish news outlet OdaTV.

The 38-year-old travelled to Istanbul for a hair transplant at the Dr Cinik clinic in the Besiktas district, according to Turkish news outlet OdaTV.

The clinic said the man “unexpectedly became unwell for reasons that remain unknown” while staff prepared him for surgery. He fell ill before the procedure began.

He was taken to hospital but died later that day. Reports say he was undergoing a second procedure after a successful first transplant.

Turkish health officials have sent the man’s body to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy, OdaTV reports.

A UK Foreign Office spokesperson told The Independent: “We are supporting the family and are in contact with local authorities.”

A clinic spokesperson told The Telegraph: “We have submitted all relevant medical documents to the authorities. The case is under judicial investigation. Out of respect for the family, we will not share further details.”

The Dr Cinik clinic describes itself as a leading centre with over 20 years’ experience and more than 50,000 transplants carried out.

The Turkish Healthcare Travel Council states that over one million people travel to Turkey each year for hair restoration treatments.
