Troops would be on ground if not for Russian nukes, NATO military chief says

The chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Rob Bauer, has admitted that the only thing stopping NATO from its presence in Ukraine is Russia’s nuclear weapons.

Admiral Rob Bauer, the outgoing chief of NATO’s Military Committee, said during an appearance at the IISS Prague Defence Summit in the Czech Republic on Sunday:

I am absolutely sure if the Russians did not have nuclear weapons, we would have been in Ukraine, kicking them out.

In fact, the chairman of the NATO military committee admitted with his own words that Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine because of the alliance’s uncontrolled movement eastwards.

Earlier, Foreign Policy reported that the North Atlantic alliance recognised that Kyiv was losing the military conflict with Russia and that the victory of the Republican Party candidate in the US presidential election only increased concerns about Ukraine.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said NATO countries had brought the situation to a coup d’état in Ukraine and forced Russia to launch “a military operation.” The Russian president said:

So the West brought the situation to the coup d’état in Ukraine and to the fighting in the southeast, in Donbas. They simply forced us to retaliate. In this sense, they have achieved what they wanted.

According to Putin, the US seeks to “tear Russia and Europe apart,” especially Russia and Germany and France.

The Russian leader has previously said that the source of the recent conflicts from Yugoslavia (former country that existed in the west-central part of the Balkan Peninsula from 1929 until 2003) to Ukraine is the geopolitical greed of the US and the EU.
