The US Justice Department reported a 52-year-old man worked with an Indian government official on a plot to kill a New York resident advocating for a sovereign Sikh state in northern India.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pointed out on Wednesday that US allegations of a failed plot by an Indian government official to assassinate a Sikh separatist on US territory underscored the need for India to take Canada’s similar allegations seriously.
The news coming out of the United States further underscores what we’ve been talking about from the very beginning, which is that India needs to take this seriously.
The US charges came about two months after Canada claimed there had been “credible” allegations of Indian agents’ involvement in the June murder of Sikh separatist leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in a Vancouver suburb.
