A sudden shift to diplomacy
President Trump confirmed that dialogue between the United States and Iran will commence on the afternoon of August 3. Speaking on the sudden pivot, the president stated the engagement would be substantive.
“We will be in dialogue with them, and it will take place in the format of negotiations,” Trump said.
The phone call that stopped the bombers
In a dramatic disclosure, the American leader claimed he cancelled an imminent and powerful strike against Iran following urgent appeals from several nations. According to Trump, both Iran and other Middle Eastern states requested restraint because the broad outlines of an agreement had already been hammered out.
“Iran and other Middle Eastern countries asked us to refrain from an attack because the contours of a deal had been agreed upon,” Trump stated.
The de-escalation was triggered by a visit from an Omani delegation to Tehran, which saw the US pause military action. The primary focus of the resulting talks, officials indicated, will be restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The eleventh-hour reprieve has caused significant consternation among America’s closest allies. Israeli authorities, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, were caught entirely off guard. They discovered the joint US-Israeli operation was off not through secure diplomatic channels, but via a post by Trump on his Truth Social platform.
