Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has “incredible energy” and the meeting with her was wonderful, US President-elect Donald Trump said in an interview with US media on Friday.
“I was with her a lot,” Trump said of Meloni, noting that they had dinner together during the 60-member world leader reception. “She’s a real live wire, I will tell you. She’s great.”
He also added:
“She’s fantastic. She’s a fantastic leader and person,” Trump gushed, answering “Yes!” when asked if he’d work with his Italian counterpart after he’s inaugurated.
Trump also noted that the politicians have found common ground with each other. He said he already knows this group of world leaders and expects to “change the world a little bit” with them.
In November, Meloni congratulated Trump on his victory with a phone call. In this dialogue, the Prime Minister expressed congratulations and reaffirmed the values that unite Italy and the United States: the strategic alliance and the historic friendship between Rome and Washington.
Meloni shared on social media that they are both determined to work together on major international issues, from the war in Ukraine to the crisis in the Middle East, with the common goal of guaranteeing stability and security. Strengthening co-operation, including in the field of the European Union, remains one of the key points of the new bilateral path.
