US President Donald Trump has called for an end to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. He made the statement on Saturday, 14 June, following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The call lasted approximately one hour,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end. I also told him that his war should come to an end.”
This is the first time Trump has directly urged both sides to stop the fighting. The conflict escalated late on Thursday when Israel launched strikes on Iran. Iran responded with missile attacks early on Friday.
The hostilities have added to tensions in a region already affected by the war in Gaza, which began in October 2023. Iranian officials said dozens of people died in the Israeli attacks. Israeli authorities confirmed that Iran’s missile strikes killed at least three people on Friday.
Trump said he and Putin spoke mainly about the Middle East. They discussed the war in Ukraine briefly. He suggested there may be further talks on Ukraine next week. Trump said he told Putin that the war in Ukraine should also end.
During his campaign, Trump promised to resolve major global conflicts. However, nearly five months into his second term, fighting continues in Ukraine, Gaza, and now between Israel and Iran.
The Kremlin confirmed the phone call and said the two leaders discussed both Ukraine and the Middle East.
