Trump holds South Bronx rally

Former US President Donald Trump would hold a South Bronx rally as part of a campaign to appeal to minority voters, according to AP News.

The campaign rally comes days before a Manhattan jury is set to begin deliberating on whether Trump should be found guilty in a hush money trial.

The Republican leader is expected to address supporters at Crotona Park. This public green space is among the most diverse and poorest neighbourhoods in the city. He hopes to draw a crowd of several thousand people.

Trump has spent the past six weeks in New York. Therefore, the Republican nominee’s campaign headquarters has planned a series of local events.

The South Bronx rally will be Trump’s first event open to the public as he insists he is playing to win in a predominantly Democratic state. The rally also allows Trump to highlight what he sees as an advantage on economic and immigration issues that could deal a blow to key Democratic Party voting blocs.

The Bronx Democratic Party, meanwhile, plans to protest Trump’s appearance with its own event in the park. However, Trump’s campaign staff believes he could weaken support for President Joe Biden among Black and Hispanic voters.

The rally comes during a pause in Trump’s criminal hush money trial. The trial will reportedly resume after the Memorial Day weekend with closing arguments. The jury would decide whether Trump is the first former president in history to be convicted of a felony. He could also become the first major party presidential candidate to run as a convicted felon.

Rev. Rubén Díaz Sr., a former state senator and city council member, was the one who urged Trump to hold a rally. Díaz praised him for being “the first and only president or presidential candidate who has shown respect to minority communities in the Bronx” by holding a rally.

People are fed up,. Democrats say they are there to help us … but our people are doing worse under the Democratic control.

The Bronx was once the most Democratic borough in the city. Barack Obama received 91.2% of the borough’s vote in 2012, the highest in the state. Biden received 83.5% in 2020. Trump, meanwhile, received only 16% of the vote.

According to the US Census, about 65% of the district’s residents are Hispanic and 31% are Black. About 35% live below the poverty line.
