US President Donald Trump has launched a new government programme offering paid flights and a financial reward to individuals who voluntarily and permanently leave the country.
The White House published a statement describing the move as a response to rising concerns over illegal immigration. President Trump linked unauthorised entry to crime and unrest in the US.
The scheme provides a free flight and a cash payment to those who take part. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the government will offer $1,000 to each participant. Authorities will issue the payment once they verify the person’s return through the CBP Home app.
Earlier in the week, Trump told reporters that this approach would reduce costs and help manage border enforcement. “We’ll pay each person a set amount and provide a flight back to their home country,” he said.
Those who choose not to leave voluntarily may face enforcement. The penalties include fines, property seizures, imprisonment, and deportation without prior notice.
In a video message, Trump said, “As long as it’s not here, you can go anywhere you like.”
