US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Charles Kushner, a New Jersey businessman, as the next US Ambassador to France.
Kushner is the father of Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, who served as a senior adviser during his presidency. Trump announced the nomination on his Truth Social platform. “Charles Kushner is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker. He will represent our country’s interests with strength and dedication,” Trump said.
Kushner founded and chairs Kushner Companies, a private real estate firm. He has received several honours, including New Jersey Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young. He has also contributed to public service, serving on the US Holocaust Memorial Council and leading the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Trump praised the Kushner family’s longstanding ties with his administration. He noted Jared Kushner’s work on key projects like Operation Warp Speed, criminal justice reform, and the Abraham Accords. These agreements helped normalise relations between Israel and several Arab nations.
Trump emphasised the strong relationship between the US and France. “Together, we will strengthen America’s partnership with France, our oldest ally and one of our greatest,” he said. He also congratulated the Kushner family, including Charles’s wife, Seryl, their four children, and their 14 grandchildren.
This nomination highlights the Kushner family’s continued influence in Trump’s political circle as he prepares for the next phase of his leadership.
