Incumbent US President Joe Biden met Republican Donald Trump at the White House, congratulated him on his election victory, said “welcome back” and added he looked forward to a smooth transition of power.
“Donald, congratulations,” Biden said, greeting Trump with a handshake and adding that he was “looking forward to a smooth transition.”
Trump made a similar pledge and thanked Biden for the invitation that Trump himself did not extend to Biden after losing the 2020 election.
“Thank you very much,” Trump said. “Politics is hard. And a lot of times it’s not a nice world. But it’s a nice world today, and I appreciate it very much.”
Trump, who flew in from Florida, arrived at a military base near the Capitol, where he met with billionaire Elon Musk for a morning session with House Republicans as Trump prepares for a potentially unified Republican government and power grab.
When Trump arrived at the White House, he was also greeted by First Lady Jill Biden. She handed the Republican a letter of congratulations for Melania Trump, expressing the team’s willingness to help with the transition of power.
Earlier, incumbent US President Joe Biden urged his team to work with Donald Trump, who won the election, for a peaceful transfer of power. The US leader stressed that he had no doubts about the integrity and transparency of the US electoral system.
The US presidential election was held on November 5. Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris and Republican Party representative Donald Trump competed for the post. For victory, one of the politicians had to get at least 270 electoral votes. Trump received 312 votes, while Harris got 226.
