Trump to do interview with Musk on Monday

US presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Tuesday he will give an interview to entrepreneur and one of the world’s richest men, Elon Musk, US media reported.

In a post on his own social media site Truth Social, Mr Trump said their conversation would take place on Monday night, with details to follow later.

Representatives for the Trump campaign and X did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

Last month, about half an hour after Mr. Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Mr Musk, who is also CEO of electric car company Tesla, endorsed his candidacy, breaking a norm of self-proclaimed neutrality among leaders of social media platforms.

During the campaign, Mr. Trump often says Mr. Musk is a key ally, and while he has derided the range and high cost of electric cars, he has also admired the technology.

Mr. Musk’s ties to America PAC, a pro-Trump superparty, have attracted intense scrutiny. The group’s activities, which had planned to spend millions on the campaign trail, were in danger of being disrupted.

Mr. Trump is not the first Republican presidential candidate in this election cycle to try to harness the power of Mr. Musk’s social media platform.

When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis entered the race in May 2023, a live broadcast featuring him and Mr Musk was marred by a series of technical glitches. Mr. Trump and his allies took the mishap as a sign of the state of Mr DeSantis’ candidacy, which ultimately failed to gain traction. At the time, Donald Trump Jr. wrote just one word on social media: “#DeSaster.”

US incumbent leader Joe Biden, 81, announced on July 21 that he had decided to withdraw his candidacy from the presidential race. He invited the Democratic Party to nominate Kamala Harris.
