Incoming US President Donald Trump stated that he planned to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin “very quickly” after assuming office, according to Reuters.
I know he wants to meet and I’m going to meet very quickly. I would’ve done it sooner but…you have to get into the office. For some of the things, you do have to be there.
Trump returns to the White House on 20 January after his official inauguration. He did not name the exact date of the meeting with the Russian leader. Answering on ending the war in Ukraine, he said:
Well, there’s only one strategy and it’s up to Putin and I can’t imagine he’s too thrilled about the way it’s gone because it hasn’t gone exactly well for him either.
Meanwhile, US Congressman Mike Waltz said a phone conversation between the two leaders could take place in “the coming days and weeks.”
