US presidential candidate Donald Trump promised during a campaign rally to prevent World War III and stop the conflict in Ukraine, media company RSBN reported.
The US politician promised:
Before I even arrive at the Oval Office, shortly after I win the presidency, I will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine settled.
According to Trump, he is the only one who is able to prevent a third world war.
The US Secret Service, responsible for the protection of the first persons of the state, admitted that it had rejected requests to strengthen the protection of former US President Donald Trump for two years, The New York Times reported.
Trump himself expressed bewilderment that the shooter who shot at him at a rally in Pennsylvania could not be prevented from getting to the roof of the building from which the fire was opened.
Agents from Trump’s security detail requested magnetometers and additional units to screen attendees at sporting events and other large public gatherings in which Trump was involved, interlocutors told media. The agents also requested additional snipers and task forces to guard other outdoor events. According to the NYT, the intelligence agency made the admission after some agents said the agency had to “make difficult decisions” amid conflicting demands, limited funding and a growing number of individuals who are entitled to protection.
The Secret Service has previously denied that it refused Trump’s security enhancements. Anthony Guglielmi, the service’s spokesman, said:
There’s an untrue assertion that a member of the former president’s team requested additional resources and that those were rebuffed.
Former US President told Fox News that no one in charge of security at the Pennsylvania rally where he was assassinated warned him of security concerns. He noted:
Nobody mentioned it. Nobody said it was a problem.
He also called it a mistake that he was not offered to wait a little while before taking the stage, knowing that there was a man on the rally grounds displaying strange behaviour.
Trump after the assassination attempt
On 15 July, Trump made his first public appearance since the assassination attempt – he attended the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he was nominated as a presidential candidate. The former president walked out to delegates to Lee Greenwood’s song “God Bless the USA” and with a bandaged ear. Trump compared the bullet that wounded his ear to ‘the biggest mosquito.’ He deemed the incident an “extremely surreal experience” and praised the Secret Service officers. The presidential candidate said, adding that he should have been dead:
They put him down with one shot right between the eyes.
Trump received a letter from the leader of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping after the assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. He said this at a speech in Michigan.
The former White House chief revealed:
He sent me a wonderful letter the other day when he found out what happened.
The former US president added that most leaders of other countries have done the same. Trump noted that he was pleased, but did not specify the names of the politicians who sent him letters.
“Good” call to Zelensky, promises to end the war
On the night of July 20, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US presidential candidate Donald Trump had a telephone conversation.
Trump called the conversation with Zelensky “very good.” The Ukrainian President congratulated Trump on a “very successful” Republican Party convention and his nomination as the Republican candidate for President of the US. According to Trump, Zelensky condemned the assassination attempt on him and noted that “the American people came together in a spirit of unity.”
Meanwhile, the US presidential candidate reiterated that he would stop the conflict in Ukraine if elected.
The US presidential election will be held in November 2024. From the Republican Party, former US President Donald Trump is seeking the nomination, from the Democratic Party – the current President Joe Biden.
Both are distinguished by their venerable age: Donald Trump is 77 and Biden is 81 years old. Meanwhile, Biden has not yet been officially nominated as a candidate, but has already won primaries in a number of states. However, his position deteriorated after a failed public debate with Trump.
