The defence ministry said on Saturday that 12 Turkish soldiers were killed in clashes with PKK militants in northern Iraq over the past two days.
The Turkish Air Force carried out airstrikes in northern Iraq and Syria at 10pm and destroyed 29 targets, among the targets were bases, shelters and oil facilities allegedly used by PKK militants, the defence ministry said on Saturday.
The military conducted operations on at least 16 PKK militants on Saturday as clashes continued, the ministry said in a statement.
The PKK, recognised as a terrorist group by Turkey, the US and the EU, turned against the Turkish state in 1984, as a consequence Turkey regularly carries out airstrikes in neighbouring Iraq as part of an offensive against PKK militants based there.
