On Saturday evening, Turkey lifted its ban on Instagram, which had been imposed on August 2 without explanation.
Government officials had previously indicated that the ban stemmed from Instagram’s failure to adhere to Turkish laws. Access to Instagram was restored on August 10.
In our talks with Instagram officials, we were assured our requests would be met, especially those regarding criminal activity, and given a promise that we would work together on a means of censoring users, as stated by Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
He also stressed that all accounts linked to terrorist organisations would be prohibited, and any content promoting such groups would be removed, specifically mentioning the PKK, PYD, and FETO.
