Turkey, UK sign defence co-operation deal

Turkey and the United Kingdom signed an agreement on Wednesday establishing the Turkey-United Kingdom Defence Industry Council (TUDIC), which institutionalises co-operation between the two countries in the defence industry.

The Head of the Turkish Defence Industry Secretariat, Haluk Gorgun, the Turkish Deputy Minister of Defence, Musa Heybet, and the British Minister of Defence, Maria Eagle, met in London for talks, the Turkish Defence Industry Secretariat said.

“At the meeting, which was held with the will to deepen co-operation against the changing global security environment and common threats, a strong will was demonstrated to further advance the defense industry relations between the two countries,” it said.

As part of the meeting organised by Eagle, the TUDIC Agreement was signed, institutionalising co-operation in the defence industry between the UK Ministry of Defence Procurement and Industry, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence and the Defence Industry Secretariat.

“We see this important meeting, which was held with the participation of Turkish and British defence industry companies, as an important step that will contribute to the further strengthening of the strategic defence industry partnership between Turkey and the UK,” it added.
