Turkish Coast Guard rescues 51 illegal migrants in Aegean Sea

The Turkish Coast Guard has rescued 51 illegal migrants off the coast of Izmir province.

According to a statement published on the coast guard website on Wednesday, two rubber boats carrying illegal migrants off the coast of Urla and Dikili districts went adrift due to engine failure and requested assistance. After receiving information, Coast Guard boats were dispatched to the area.

Coast Guard teams rescued 51 illegal migrants, including two children, from rubber boats.

In the Tepecik area of Seferihisar district, a Coast Guard special operations team responded to a report of the presence of a group of irregular migrants and captured 13 migrants, including one child. After processing, the irregular migrants were sent to the provincial migration management office.

Turkey is a key transit point for irregular migrants seeking to reach Europe to start a new life, especially those fleeing war and persecution.
