The Turkish Coast Guard has rescued 94 illegal migrants, including children, in Cesme and Seferihisar districts in Izmir, Turkish media reported.
The rescue operation began when the coast guard received information about a group of illegal migrants on life rafts off the Cesme coast, the Turkish Coast Guard Command said in a statement. A coast guard ship was dispatched and 66 migrants, including 17 children, were rescued from the life rafts, which Greek authorities pushed back into Turkish territorial waters.
In another incident off the coast of Seferihisar, the Coast Guard rescued 28 irregular migrants, including 8 children, from a rubber boat, which was also pushed back by the Greek authorities.
All rescued migrants were handed over to the provincial migration management office for processing.
