Turkish security forces caught about 100 illegal migrants and were rescued after they were pushed back by Greek forces on Friday – Anadolu Ajansı.
The illegal migrants, who were pushed back by Greek forces into Turkish territorial waters and pulled out due to engine failure, were rescued off the coast of Fethiye and Datca districts of Mugla province in the west of the country, according to a statement from the Coast Guard Command’s website.
A rubber dinghy carrying illegal immigrants was found to be drifting off the coast of Datça due to engine failure and a request for help was made.
As a result of the operation, fifteen illegal immigrants and brought ashore by the Coast Guard. The illegal immigrants were handed over to the provincial immigration control office after the procedures were carried out.
Turkish security forces caught nine illegal immigrants in the northwestern province of Kirklareli and 38 off the coast of the western province of Canakkale. Another two migrants were caught in the eastern province of Erzincan and 42 off the coast of the western Ayvalik district of Balikesir province. In the north-eastern province of Ardahan, two people accused of smuggling illegal migrants were arrested and eight other illegal migrants were caught.
