UK, EU sign Competition Co-operation Agreement

The UK Government and the European Union have formally concluded the technical negotiations on the UK-EU Competition Co-operation Agreement.

This agreement aims to improve co-operation between UK and EU competition authorities, allowing for greater dialogue between the UK Competition and Markets Authority, the European Commission and the national competition authorities of EU member states.

The agreement will ensure better enforcement of global competition laws, which will help support businesses in both the UK and the EU, as well as protecting consumers.

It is expected to help further when working on similar or parallel cases – for example, co-operation and information sharing in investigations into companies engaging in unfair competition practices that cross UK and EU member state borders. This agreement is one example of how we can strengthen co-operation between the UK and the EU for mutual benefit.

The announcement complements the Prime Minister’s call at the International Investment Summit for UK regulators to support the Government’s mission for growth.

The UK and the EU have negotiated the agreement with the aim of signing it in the coming year. The Parliament will have the opportunity to scrutinise the agreement in detail when the text is published for scrutiny.
