UK judiciary demands protection after “dangerous” remark by EU judge

British barrister Steven Barrett has warned of the “destruction” of the UK judicial system following an investigation into an allegedly “biased” judge, GB News reports.

Senior Deputy District Judge Tan Ikram last month released three women convicted of terrorism-related offences. Ikram is now to be the subject of an enquiry.

Speaking to GB News about Ikram’s case and a similar case involving Romanian judge Vasilică-Cristi Danileţ, Barrister Steven Barrett said:

If that comes here, then I’m afraid the European Court of Human Rights will destroy our judiciary. And so that means it’s a very big, very dramatic thing.

Barrett also added:

If that’s going to happen, let’s cling to the old Constitution, Let’s have non political judges and let’s when when incidents occur like this one, let’s investigate properly and fully, which is only right that that that occurs. If you want to protect the judiciary, we must investigate these matters properly. We can’t have judges just revealing their political thoughts willy nilly. That would be absolutely dreadful for justice and the perception of justice, which you say is just as important.
