UK set for mini heatwave next week

The exact dates for the start and end of next week’s mini heatwave in the UK have been confirmed. BBC weather forecasters have caused a stir by confirming that a mini heatwave with temperatures of up to 27°C is on its way.

The UK Met Office has said that temperatures in south-east and central England could reach 23-24°C on Tuesday. But the BBC has gone even further, saying that the “mini heatwave” will begin on Wednesday, April 30, with a maximum temperature of 27°C.

The Met Office said that the UK is likely to see “mainly fair weather with sunny spells” after early fog and mist clears. “Overall, the forecast is fairly stable, with occasional cloudy showers, but there will be some good sunny spells with temperatures rising early next week,” the forecaster added.

The BBC reports that the “warm spell” will begin on Saturday (April 26) with a maximum temperature of 20 °C, rising to 23 °C at the beginning of next week and reaching a high of 27 °C on Wednesday. However, when asked “how long will it last,” the BBC reports that such weather will continue “until the end of next week,” i.e., at least until Sunday, May 4.

The BBC reports: “Blocked weather with high pressure in the east of the UK and low pressure in the west means that warm air will flow in from continental Europe. This weather is likely to continue until at least the end of next week. By next weekend, the position of the high and low pressure areas may change, allowing cooler air to reach northern parts of the UK, with rain possible in southern areas. This is not yet a final forecast and is subject to change.”

The Met Office forecast for this Friday stated: “Low cloud and mist will clear, with sunny spells in most areas. Rain in Northern Ireland and western Scotland, later possible in Cornwall and Wales. Isolated showers in Wales and south-west England. Cool in the west, warmer in the east. Clouds and rain in Northern Ireland will gradually clear. Rain, heavy at times, will move eastward to parts of Wales, Scotland and south-west England. Elsewhere, it will be dry with sunny spells.”

The forecast for Saturday (April 26) adds: “Cloudy in the west, with variable rain and drizzle, dry in the east, with sunny spells after a cloudy start in some areas. Sunny spells will also spread across Northern Ireland.”

The forecast from Sunday to Tuesday, April 27-29, adds: “Cloudy with rain in the north-west on Sunday, dry in other areas with sunny spells. The weather will be similar at the start of next week, but temperatures will rise and it will be warm in England and Wales during the day.”
