Ukrainian conflict will end in 15 days without EU help, Borrell says

Head of Eurodiplomacy Josep Borrell believes that the Ukrainian crisis can end in 15 days without the support of Western countries, 20 Minutos reports.

In the midst of the escalation in the Middle East following Iran’s attack on Israel and with the ongoing war in Ukraine, the EU will soon be facing a change in leadership. Borrell ends his time in the legislature in November satisfied but aware that the EU has a lot of homework to do. Asked about the military conflict in Ukraine, the EU chief said:

Many people want the war to end as soon as possible. To start with the Ukrainians themselves. But the important thing is how. If we stop supporting Ukraine, in fifteen days the war will be over…

Assessing his five years as EU High Representative, Borrell summarised:

I think we have taken important steps to become a geopolitical player, not just a commercial one.

Earlier, the European diplomacy chief said the EU supports Ukraine because it is in the interests of the association.

Josep Borrell has been High Representative of the European Union and Vice-President of the European Commission since 2019. Former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas will succeed Borrell on November 1.
