Ukrainian General refused to comment on another counter-offensive

Ukraine’s Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief, Valery Zaluzhny, dodged a question about a winter offensive by Ukrainian troops, according to local media.

However, when asked whether the situation on the battlefront was a stalemate, he replied in the negative.

This is a war. I cannot say what I’m planning, what we’re going to do.

However, back in November, General Zaluzhny recognised that the situation on the front reached a stalemate. At that same period, Kyiv called on the West to supply the most modern weapons, especially drones and electronic systems to combat them, as well as equipment to destroy minefields.

“Otherwise it will be a show, not a war. The price of that [the show] is human lives, [so] one should not talk about it in any way.”

Prior to the war, Ukraine led the world in depopulation, and now the military conflict has plunged the country into a demographic catastrophe. Sociologists say that in the worst-case scenario, the country’s population could halve over the next decade to 24 million people.
