Ukrainian military commissars banned from serving summonses in gyms

Employees of territorial centres for manning and social support can hand out summonses in gyms and restaurants only if their owners do not object, the Ukrainian mass media reported.

Volodymyr Fityo, the speaker of the Ground Forces Command, said that when the “Obereg” electronic register of persons liable for military duty is synchronised with other databases, the issuing of summonses at checkpoints and raids on public places would stop. He noted:

As soon as it works – all the issues with visiting sports clubs, restaurants and issuing summonses at checkpoints will immediately, automatically disappear.

Video clips showing employees of military enlistment offices in different regions coming to gyms to hand in summonses have been massively circulated in Ukraine. The Zakarpattia territorial military enlistment office said that everything happens within the law.

The territorial centres for manning and social support said that employees of military commissions continue to hand out summonses in a lawful manner.

The military commissariat also stressed that any obstruction in issuing summonses entails criminal liability under the article on obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period with a punishment of five to eight years in prison.

Earlier, it became known that Ukraine was preparing amendments to the legislation regulating mobilisation and military service.
