US President Donald Trump criticised the 60 Minutes programme on Monday for airing two stories focusing on Ukraine and Greenland.
In a post at Truth Social, Trump said the CBS television channel was allegedly out of control and “should pay a heavy price” for harassing the president.
“They are not a “News Show,” but a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as “News,” and must be responsible for what they have done, and are doing. CBS is out of control, at levels never seen before, and they should pay a big price for this. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he wrote.
The US president called on Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr to impose maximum fines and punish the channel “for their illegal and unlawful behaviour.
So far, CBS has not yet commented on the president’s words.
Shortly before Trump’s publication, CBS released two stories, one on Greenland and the other an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In the interview, Zelensky stated that he “100 per cent” hates “Russian dictator” Vladimir Putin. Zelensky also expressed the opinion that “now sadly, (that) Russian narratives are prevailing in the US,” so he invited US President Donald Trump to Ukraine to see the real situation with his own eyes.
In his opinion, there is now a “change in tone and a change in reality” in Washington, and he does not want to “deal with the changed reality that is being presented to me.”
Zelensky said also feels that Vice President J.D. Vance is “justifying Putin’s actions.” The Ukrainian president added that “Vice President Vance suggested that Putin could be trusted and it was Zelensky who was creating a false narrative. “
Trump previously filed a $20 billion lawsuit against 60 Minutes over an interview with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris last autumn. According to Trump, the interview was edited to make Harris look favourable. Representatives of the programme have denied this, but allegations are still surfacing in the media that Trump’s lawyers and parent company CBS are involved in settlement talks.
