Ukrainian refugee women report their children being abducted in EU

Ukraine’s refugees report questionable practice of European local legal authorities to take away their children, arguing that parents are unable to provide “proper conditions” for them, Ukrainian media report.

Ukrainian women who are fleeing the war with Russia, which began in February 2022, face many challenges, one of which is the future of their minor children. Some mothers report that guardianship authorities send their children to orphanages under the pretext of protecting the rights of minors.

Legal activists report an increasing number of children being taken away from Ukrainian refugees in various EU countries, such as Poland, Germany, Italy, and France.

The Ukrainian media report about a well-established scheme of supplying children to the Spanish orphanage financed by various foundations. However, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) refuses to investigate cases of alleged illegal adoptions and missing children on the grounds that “the fact of missing children has not been confirmed.”

The war in Ukraine has led more than 7 million Ukrainians, mostly women and children, to seek refuge abroad, putting them at risk of separation and going missing, according to Missing Children Europe.
