Unemployment in the eurozone in October remained at the level of the previous month – 6.3%, the European Union’s statistical office Eurostat reported on Monday.
Analysts surveyed by Trading Economics also did not forecast a revision of the indicator. The current unemployment rate is the lowest since the count was made.
In October 2023, unemployment stood at 6.6 per cent. The number of unemployed in the region fell by 3,000 in October from the previous month to 10.841 million. The unemployment rate among young people (population under 25) rose to 15 per cent from 14.9 per cent. This is the highest level in the past year.
The lowest unemployment rate among the largest eurozone countries was recorded in Germany (3.4%, the same as a month earlier), the highest – in Spain (11.2%, also unchanged). In France, unemployment in October increased by 0.1 percentage points and reached 7.6%, in Italy – fell by 0.2 p.p., to 5.8%.
In the EU as a whole, unemployment was 5.9 per cent the month before last, the same as in August and September.
