US and Chinese officials will meet in London on Monday for a new round of trade talks. The announcement came after a call between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday.
President Trump described the conversation as “very positive.” The two leaders spoke for about 90 minutes. They discussed trade tariffs and the global supply of rare earth minerals.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will attend the meeting on behalf of the United States.
“The meeting should go very well,” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
China’s foreign ministry confirmed that Trump initiated the call. According to the ministry, President Xi urged the US to remove recent restrictions on China. It also said Trump welcomed Chinese students coming to study in the US, despite visa policies affecting some applicants.
