US military aircraft suffered “a mishap and went down”

A US military aircraft crashed in the eastern Mediterranean Sea as a result of training activities, the US European Command said.

The statement did not essentially provide any information of what type of aircraft went down, whether anyone was killed; it is still unclear what condition the crew of the aircraft was in.

Out of respect for the families affected, we will not release further information on the personnel involved at this time, the statement said.

USEUCOM issued a statement that an investigation is underway, but “there are no indications of hostile activity.”

Information will be updated “as the situation develops.”

Shortly after the conflict between the Gaza Strip and Israel broke out, the U.S. Army made heavy deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, including two aircraft carriers; it also began training activities in the region, getting munitions to Israel via an air bridge it created.

The European Command emphasised that the incident was not related to Israeli hostilities in the Gaza Strip, nor to the fighting on the Israeli-Lebanese border.
