US strike on Yemen port kills at least 38

At least 38 people were killed in US airstrikes on the Ras Isa oil port in Yemen, Arab media reported on Friday.

According to the al-Hasa provincial health authority, another 102 people were wounded.

Yemen was hit by 15 airstrikes by US forces on April 14. The attacks targeted Ragwan districts in Yemen’s Marib and Madhal provinces.

On April 11, Yemen’s Houthis reported hitting warships in the Red Sea. In particular, they attacked the US aircraft carrier Harry Truman. According to militant spokesman Yahya Sarea, the strikes were carried out in response to “US crimes against our people.”

The Central Command of the American armed forces in turn confirmed the information about the destruction of the port of Ras Isa. According to its statement on X, it deprived the rebels of “illegal income” from the sale of oil products and access to fuel.

On 15 March, the US began launching massive strikes on targets of the Houthis, who control about a third of Yemen’s territory.

After the conflict in Gaza escalated in 2023, the Houthis warned they would bombard Israeli territory and prevent ships affiliated with them from passing through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Attacks stopped after a ceasefire was imposed in the Palestinian enclave in mid-January this year, but after the truce collapsed in early March, the rebels announced a resumption of strikes against Tel Aviv vessels in the Red Sea, and then resumed attempts to attack targets inside Israel with rockets.
