The Trump administration has suspended all immigration applications submitted by migrants from Latin America and Ukraine who were allowed to enter the US under some Biden-era programmes, citing fraud and security concerns, according to two US officials and an internal memo obtained by CBS News.
The freeze on admissions will remain in place indefinitely while government officials work to identify potential fraud and improve vetting procedures to reduce national and public safety concerns.
The move will affect migrants who were in the process of applying for various immigration benefits that allow them to remain in the US legally.
Earlier, the White House published a valentine with Trump’s face to illegal migrants. On a pink background with hearts placed the faces of Trump and border security supervisor Tom Homan, and above them wrote a poem warning against coming to the country illegally.
The United States Justice Department had previously removed several judges who had handled immigration-related cases, despite a backlog of more than 3 million such cases and White House chief Donald Trump’s promises to crack down on illegal migration.
US President Donald Trump on his first day in office signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency on the nation’s southern border over the illegal migration situation. He also instructed agencies to start deporting people who are on the territory of the United States illegally.
