US Vice President Kamala Harris held bilateral talks with world leaders at the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
Harris discussed the situation in Gaza with Israeli President Isaac Herzog during a meeting on Friday, where she emphasised the need to ensure the safety of more than 1 million civilians in the region in the event of a possible Israeli attack on Rafah.
Harris stressed that Palestinians should not be forcibly displaced from Gaza, as well as the protection of civilians, increasing humanitarian aid and creating the proper ceasefire conditions for aid to reach those in need in Gaza.
Aside from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Harris, in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, reaffirmed her commitment to the US-Iraq security agreement and emphasised the importance of the High Military Commission and economic relations between the two countries. She reiterated US President Joe Biden’s invitation to al-Sudani to visit the White House.
Finally, she congratulated Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob on Slovenia’s membership on the UN Security Council for the 2024-2025 term, noted Slovenia’s significant role in delivering humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and underscored the importance of the NATO-EU partnership to Ukraine’s independence and transatlantic security.
