Uzbekistan holds business forum with Iran

Uzbekistan hosted a business forum in Tashkent in an attempt to boost bilateral trade between the two neighbours, according to bne Intellinews.

The 19 September meeting brought together more than 200 business representatives from both countries to discuss trade and investment opportunities. Samad Hasanzadeh, President of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, chaired the event on the Iranian side.

Davron Vakhabov, Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasised the importance of the forum in strengthening economic ties.

Exports of chemical products from Uzbekistan to Iran reached $12.8mn, increasing 1.7 times compared to the previous period.

He also noted that “imports of plastics from Iran to Uzbekistan grew 1.4 times, amounting to $112mn.”

The participants held B2B meetings and discussed specific projects. The visit ends with a joint business forum in Khiva on 20 September.

On Thursday, Tehran announced the official opening of a new shopping centre in the Armenian capital Yerevan. In July, Iran also launched its first goods train to China on a new railway route through Central Asia.
