North Korea stated on Tuesday that it is not interested in being included or excluded from the list of countries banned from entering its territory, according to state media reports.
An article by international observer Kim Myong Chol, published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), states that the authorities and residents of North Korea are not interested in visiting the US. This position was expressed against the backdrop of the US authorities’ decision to ban citizens from 12 countries from entering the country and to impose restrictive measures on residents of seven other countries. It is noteworthy that the DPRK was not included in this list.
Kim Myong Chol notes that there is a view among experts that this is a “strange interpretation” of the event, which may indicate Washington’s possible readiness to resume dialogue. The author emphasises that only the American authorities can explain why North Korea was not included in this list — whether for technical reasons or political motives. It is also recalled that there are no diplomatic relations between the US and North Korea.
“One thing is certain: our country is not in the least interested in the possibility of travel to the United States,” the author comments. “Even if the American administration deliberately did not include the DPRK on this list, it is of no importance to us and does not cause any joy.”
North Korean citizens have no intention of travelling to US, Kim Myong Chol says
Kim Myong Chol describes the US as a country that North Korean citizens have no intention of travelling to due to its hostile attitude, widespread xenophobia and racial discrimination, as well as social problems.
The author acknowledges the right of any state to decide on entry into its territory, but stresses that the international community condemns the actions of the United States, viewing them as a tool of pressure.
“As before, we will not welcome Americans to our country,” he added. The commentator emphasised that such a measure is legitimate and fair, protecting public order and the welfare of citizens from “hostile threats” from the United States.
