Woman blames husband for Instagram follower loss, files police complaint

A woman in Uttar Pradesh, India, filed a police complaint against her husband after claiming that housework limited her ability to make Instagram reels. She believes this led to a drop in her follower count.

The woman, identified only as Nisha, was active on Instagram and often posted two reels a day. According to local reports, her husband, Vijendra, who lives in Noida, asked her to spend less time on social media and focus more on housework.

Social media dispute leads to police involvement

Nisha reduced her time online to take on more domestic chores. When she noticed that she had lost two followers, she blamed her husband. The couple argued, and Nisha left their home to stay with her family in Pilkhuwa, Hapur district.

She later filed a complaint at the women’s police station in Hapur. Nisha told officers that her husband kept her busy with cleaning and washing, which left her no time to create content for her Instagram account.

Authorities intervene, But couple remain apart

Aruna Rai, the Station House Officer at Hapur Mahila Thana, confirmed the complaint. “Nisha accused her husband of harassment. After both sides shared their views, we organised counselling. She eventually withdrew her complaint,” Rai said.

The case drew local attention due to its unusual cause and the fallout that followed. Reports say the couple had been married for only a short time. Since the dispute, Vijendra has lost his job and is struggling to find new work.

Although police consider the matter closed, the couple remain separated. Both have declined to speak with the media.
