The wreckage of the crashed Boeing 737 cargo aircraft has been recovered from the Arabian Sea. Early reports suggest that none of those on board survived this major air disaster.
On Tuesday, the aircraft lost 5,000 feet of altitude in a matter of seconds and disappeared from radar. According to the Civil Aviation Authority, radar data showed that the aircraft suddenly lost altitude and began to descend, making a sharp turn a few minutes later.
“A K2 Airways B737 cargo flight from Pakistan, en route from Sharjah to Karachi, reported a navigational system issue and was promptly guided by Karachi ACC,” stated Pakistan’s Airport Authority, adding that three minutes later, radar operators recorded a sudden and sharp drop in altitude, after which contact with the aircraft was lost.
After twelve hours of searching, the Pakistan Navy and the Maritime Rescue Agency stated that they had located and confirmed the wreckage of the K2 Airways B737 cargo aircraft, according to the PAA statement.
Images show rescuers retrieving significant parts of the aircraft’s fuselage from the water. The authorities confirmed that the search for the main wreckage is continuing, although challenging sea conditions are hampering rescue operations.
K2 Airways has identified the five crew members who were on board the crashed flight, adding that they “continue to pray earnestly for the safety of our colleagues.”
