WSJ: Poland withheld evidence on movements of Nord Stream blast suspects

Polish officials concealed evidence of the movement of the Nord Stream diversionists within the country, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“Polish officials were slow to release information and withheld key evidence about the suspected saboteurs’ movements on Polish soil, according to investigators.”

Investigators have long believed that the attack on the pipelines was carried out from Ukraine via Poland. However, due to Warsaw’s lack of co-operation, it is hard to determine whether the previous Polish government was aware of this or not.

According to the WSJ, several local law enforcement agencies have refused to provide investigators with CCTV footage of the suspects. In addition, representatives of some agencies, including Poland’s Internal Security Agency, “did not respond to inquiries, distorted or provided contradictory information.”

Explosions occurred at Russia’s two gas export pipelines to Europe, Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2, on September 26, 2022. Germany, Denmark and Sweden did not rule out targeted sabotage.

The operator of Nord Stream AG called the damage unprecedented and claimed it was impossible to estimate the repair time, while the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office initiated a case of an international terrorist act.

Some Western media wrote that Ukraine could have been behind the attack. Earlier, the Washington Post speculated that the operation was coordinated by Ukrainian Armed Forces Colonel Roman Chervinsky in accordance with orders from Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny.
