A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping began in the Kremlin on Thursday. The Chinese leader arrived in Moscow to take part in events commemorating the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The PRC is ready to continue working with Russia to uphold and defend the truth about the history of World War II, Xi Jinping said during an official meeting with Putin at the Kremlin.
The Chinese leader expressed his great pleasure at taking part in the celebrations organised in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Xi Jinping also recalled that this year marks the victory of the Chinese people in their war of resistance against the Japanese invaders. In this regard, he stated that 80 years ago, China and Russia, at the cost of enormous losses, were able to achieve the Great Victory and thus make a historic contribution to the cause of peace throughout the world.
The Russian president thanked his counterpart for the decision to share the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day. The Russian leader also noted that the Chinese military contingent would be the largest among foreign troops at the parade in Moscow.
In addition, Putin spoke about the work of the two governments to implement the entire range of bilateral agreements, adding that he intends to exchange views with Xi Jinping on the whole range of relations. At the same time, the Russian president emphasised that the development of relations between Russia and China is guided by the interests of the peoples of both countries, and is not directed “against anyone.”
Xi Jinping’s last visit to Moscow was in March 2023. In 2024, Xi Jinping attended the BRICS summit in Kazan.
