Yemen fired on Israel over 200 drones, rockets since October

More than 200 drones and cruise missiles have been launched at Israel from Yemen since the start of the Gaza war, the Israeli army said on Friday.

Most of the attacks from Yemen were intercepted by US Central Command, the Israeli Air Force and ground-based air defence systems, the Israeli military said.

The statement followed a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv early Friday that killed one Israeli and wounded 10 others. The Israeli army first reported in March that a cruise missile fired from Yemen entered Israeli airspace and exploded in an open area in the northern city of Eilat in southern Israel.

After Friday’s attack, Israeli news website Ynet quoted an Israeli official as saying an attack on Yemen was under consideration.

The Houthis began striking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November last year to protest Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. On the night of January 12, in response to their actions, the US and Britain launched an attack on Houthi targets in Yemen. The White House said the strikes on movement-controlled areas of the country were defensive in nature. It was also claimed at the time that the strikes were carried out to protect international vessels.
