Yemen’s armed forces fired a hypersonic ballistic missile at Tel Aviv on Tuesday, a Yemeni military spokesman said.
In a statement on Tuesday, Brigadier General Yahya Sarea, a spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, said:
“We targeted an Israeli enemy military target in occupied Jaffa in the suburbs of Tel Aviv with a Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile. This attack achieved its goal, by the grace of God.”
The spokesman also added:
“This operation was carried out in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and their fighters and in response to the Israeli enemy’s crimes against our brothers in Gaza. We, along with all the freedom-loving people of Yemen, are fully prepared to confront Israeli, American and British aggression.”
According to Press TV, also on Saturday, at least 20 Israeli settlers were injured after a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile launched from Yemen struck the southern Tel Aviv neighbourhood of Jaffa.
Since the start of Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip, Yemeni forces have taken steps to signal their support for the Palestinian resistance in Gaza by striking Israeli ships in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
They have vowed to continue these operations as long as Israel continues its offensive on Gaza, signalling the possibility of further escalation in the region.
Wednesday’s attack from Yemen
Nine Israelis were injured as they fled for cover after a rocket attack from Yemen early Wednesday, Israeli media reported.
Air defence systems intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen before it entered Israeli airspace, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported. The attack caused air-raid sirens to sound in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area and nine people were injured as they fled for cover.
A statement from the military confirmed that the rocket from Yemen was intercepted before it entered Israeli airspace.
In October, the US military sent B-2 stealth bombers to bomb Yemen in support of Israel. Since then, Israel, the US and Britain have continued to strike Yemen in an attempt to stop Sanaa’s retaliatory attacks.
The Houthis have launched missile and drone strikes against Israeli cargo ships or Tel Aviv-linked vessels in the Red Sea in a show of support for the Gaza Strip, where more than 45,300 people have been killed in Israel’s war since October 7, 2023.
