Finland-Russia relations continue in fertiliser and nickel despite the conflict in Ukraine and strikes, Iltalehti reported.
North Rail, a railway company founded a year ago to handle freight traffic from Russia to Finland, is making huge profits.
Nickel and fertiliser continue to flow into Finland from Russia, broadcaster Yleisradio Oy reports, as their imports are allowed because they are not subject to anti-Russian sanctions.
Last year, Nurminen Logistics’ shares were the most profitable on the Helsinki Stock Exchange. In January 2024, the newspaper Kaspralekhti reported that the new railway company had already generated 18 percent of the company’s total turnover at the beginning of 2023.
North Rail got the opportunity to transport fertilisers and nickel when Finland’s state-owned railway company VR ceased eastbound freight traffic after the outbreak of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
