Zelensky invited Donald Trump to visit Ukraine with one condition

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited former US President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine, but only on condition that he fulfils his words “to stop the war in 24 hours,” according to The Independent.

“If you can stop the war during 24 hours, I think it will be enough to come to Kyiv, on any day I am here.”

Mr Trump claims he is capable of ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine if he becomes president, resorting to the fact that he has good relations with the leaders of both countries.

In an interview with CNN last year, Mr Trump said: “If I’m president, I will have that war settled in one day, 24 hours.”

The Ukrainian leader said he was “frightened” by the prospect of Mr Trump returning to power because of his similar speeches and rhetoric about ending the war in 24 hours sounds “very dangerous.” Furthermore, he paid close attention to the fact that the idea involves Ukraine losing and ceding some territory, according to an interview broadcast Friday night by Britain’s Channel 4 News:

Because it means that if his idea [of ending the war quickly], which no one has heard about, if his idea will not work for us, for our people, then he will do everything to achieve the implementation of his idea anyway. And this is what worries me a little.

The Ukrainian president remains wary of the Republican candidate ahead of the US presidential election.

On the other hand, Trump, who during his political career has spoken of his close and friendly ties with Mr Putin, as well as calling him “smart” for occupying “a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people.”
