Biden addressed Congress, urging it to pass supplemental request on financial aid to Ukraine

President Biden repeated his call Wednesday for Congress to pass an aid request for Ukraine as the White House warned that funding would run out by the end of the month, according to the White House official website.

“This cannot wait.  Congress needs to pass supplemental funding for Ukraine before they break for the holiday recess.  It’s as simple as that.”

The president directed his message in particular to Republicans as the Democrat-controlled Senate prepares to vote on Biden’s request for $106 billion in funding for national security-related issues.

Republicans think they can get everything they want without any bipartisan compromise. That’s not the answer (…)  And now they’re willing to literally kneecap Ukraine on the battlefield and damage our national security in the process.

The current House Speaker, Rep. Mike Johnson, argues that aid to Ukraine won’t go through without funding for border security. In response, the president has promised to change his policy on immigration issues.

“And like I said, I am willing to make significant compromises on the border.  We need to fix the broken border system (…) I’ve asked for billions of dollars for more border agents, more immigration judges, more asylum officers. Republicans have to decide if they want a political issue or if they want a solution at the border.”

At the end of the speech, Biden was asked about having “acted either illegally or unethically with respect to (…) family’s business interests.” The president was also asked to explain why he was in contact with many of “son and brother’s foreign business associates.” Biden responded:

I’m not going to comment on that.  I did not, and it’s just a bunch of lies.

When asked which Democrats could defeat Donald Trump in the election, he stated, “Probably 50 of them. No, I’m not the only one who can defeat him, but I will defeat him.”
