Moldova to purchase second airspace observation radar with EU funds

Moldova is expected to receive a second air surveillance radar from EU funding in 2025, according to Euractiv.

The radar would complement the existing air surveillance system and improve the detection of potential threats, Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi stated on Tuesday.

“With the support of our partners, we are achieving significant progress in air defence. These new radars will provide us with better and continuous information on airspace threats.”

The minister added that the acquisition became possible due to the European Peace Facility (EPF).

We are taking measures to expedite this, given the high demand for these radars not only from Moldova but also from other countries.

Last December, the Moldovan army received a Ground Master (GM) 200 air monitoring radar from France at a cost of about 14 million euros. According to the defence minister, the army now has about 20 outdated radars.
