The Chancellor published a new photo so that people could get used to his temporary look for the next week or two, but it quickly turned into a meme.
Mr. Scholz joked he is “looking forward to memes” after showing himself with a black eye patch. It seemingly covers bruises on the right side of his face.
The German Chancellor went jogging on Saturday, where he fell and got bruises on his face. As a result of his injuries, he was forced to cancel several meetings scheduled for the weekend.
“Thanks for the well wishes; it looks worse than it is!”
Following the published photo, comparisons of the German leader with fictional pirates such as Jack Sparrow, the captain from the children’s cartoon “SpongeBob SquarePants,” appeared on the web. Some people associate him with Marvel’s Nick Fury or Bob “Snake” Plissken from Escape from New York (1981) and Escape from L.A. (1996).
Local media reported that Mr. Scholz fell while jogging in Potsdam, located 28 kilometers (17 miles) southwest of the German capital. The chancellor has hated sports since his school days but keeps himself in shape by jogging.
