Polish military warns of military equipment movement on its border amid NATO drills

Poland’s armed forces warned that they would move military equipment to the north of the country, including to the borders with Russia’s Kaliningrad region as part of NATO’s Steadfast Defender 2024 exercise.

We ask you to remain particularly cautious in the near future as you may encounter numerous military convoys on the roads.

The Steadfast Defender 2024 is the largest NATO exercise in decades.

“We would like to inform you that from May 4 to May 6, military columns are planned to be relocated in the regions of the West Pomeranian, Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships.”

Recently, tensions have been rising in Europe over NATO’s involvement in the military conflict in Ukraine. Poland applied for participation in the Nuclear Sharing programme, according to Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Zalewski.

President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out at the end of February that NATO troops could be sent to Ukraine, sparking widespread anger.

In late April, Thomas Wright, special assistant to the US president, denied that Ukraine could join NATO while it was at war, despite repeated US statements that NATO’s doors remained open.
