The U.S. strongly opposes close relations between Russia and North Korea

The White House on Saturday made accusations against North Korea for supplying weapons to Russian Federation.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby asserted that the U.S. has information about the transport of 1,000 containers of military equipment and ammunition to Russia. The White House calls such a close relationship a troubling development. Kirby also made the following statement:

We condemn the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) for providing Russia with this military equipment, which will be used to attack Ukrainian cities, kill Ukrainian civilians, and further Russia’s illegitimate war.

Satellite images were also released purportedly showing corroborating information about the shipments being loaded onto a Russian-flagged vessel and then sent by railway to a warehouse located on Russia’s southwestern border.

The White House has also suggested that Kim Jong Un is seeking advanced Russian military technology in exchange for ammunition. All of this makes the deepening military relationship between the two countries wary. The possibility of arms deals between the two countries has come under scrutiny recently following Kim Jong Un’s visit to Russia to meet Vladimir Putin and visit key military facilities. Specific allegations, however, were not disclosed.

The new allegations came a day after North Korea warned the U.S. of a nuclear response to the arrival of a naval ship of the U.S. in South Korea.
