ABC host stunned by a new poll: the chances of Biden and Trump are equal

The poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal revealed that Biden and Trump tied at 46% in hypothetical political confrontations, ABC reported.

ABC host George Stephanopoulos was extremely surprised by the fact that the former President Donald Trump and the current President Biden have an almost equal number of votes in a hypothetical rematch, despite Trump’s legal “baggage”.

In ABC’s “This Week”, Stephanopoulos presented a new poll showing that people who support candidates reached 46% support each if the 2024 presidential election were held today.

It is kind of shocking in a way that, despite all of the baggage that Donald Trump carries, he’s tied with Joe Biden right now.

The ABC host added that the accusations against Trump only seemed to strengthen his position in the Republican Party.

With every passing month and every new indictment, Donald Trump seems to be consolidating his control over the Republican Party.

The people who participated in the survey were asked to comment on the allegations made against Trump. More than 60% of Republican primary voters insisted that numerous criminal charges were politically motivated and unfounded. Another 78% of respondents claimed that the actions taken by Trump after the 2020 elections were legal and were carried out in order to ensure fair and accurate elections.

Only 16% said Trump illegally tried to prevent Congress from approving the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The poll revealed that despite Trump’s legal challenges, 59% of Republican primary voters support him in the presidential race. Compared to a similar survey conducted in April this year, this figure has grown by 11 per cent.

Donna Brazile, the former Democratic National Committee chair, stated that the results of the poll are alarming, since it might become a bad sign for President Biden.

“When I looked at that recent poll, [from] the Wall Street Journal, I said, ‘this could keep me up at night.'”

In a separate TV interview Sunday, CNN’s Jim Acosta reminded that despite four indictments Trump and Biden are still equal.

Larry Sabato, the Director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, told Acosta that the survey indicated the need for Biden to work on the election campaign ahead of the 2024 election season.

“Biden has work to do.”

However, there are also those who do not support this point of view. The New York Times White House correspondent Peter Baker also referenced the poll in an MSNBC interview on Saturday.

After the mugshot and four criminal indictments, you would think that President Biden would have [a] significant advantage, but apparently not.
